The Kailua Independence Day Parade is one of the most beloved traditions on the Windward side, bringing together our entire community for a morning of celebration, connection, and pride. Each year, thousands of residents and visitors line the streets of Kailua to experience a vibrant procession of local schools, small businesses, cultural groups, performers, and community organizations. From keiki waving flags to live music and decorated floats, the parade is a true reflection of the heart of Kailua.
Organized by the Kailua Chamber of Commerce, this event has grown into one of the largest Independence Day celebrations on Oʻahu. With over 70,000 attendees in recent years, the parade is not just a celebration, but a powerful platform for local organizations to be seen, supported, and celebrated. It is a space where our community shows up for one another and honors the people, traditions, and values that make Kailua so special.
Now in its 77th year, the parade continues to evolve while staying rooted in the community. This year’s theme, Stronger Together, highlights the importance of unity, resilience, and shared purpose. Whether you are marching, performing, volunteering, or cheering from the sidelines, you are part of what makes this event meaningful. The Kailua Independence Day Parade is more than a tradition; it is a celebration of who we are, together.

The Parade begins near the end of Kainalu Drive, with parade participants entering from Palapu Street and continuing down the route to Kailua Intermediate School. This stretch of Kainalu Drive becomes the heart of the celebration, filled with ʻohana, local organizations, and community members gathering to enjoy the parade together. Our main stage and emcee booth will be located at Hope Center Ministries, 322 Kainalu Drive. This is a great spot to enjoy live announcements, performances, and commentary throughout the parade.
Spectators are welcome to view the parade from anywhere along Kainalu Drive. Many families begin saving their spots in advance, sometimes up to a week before the event. While this is part of the tradition, there is typically still space available the morning of the parade if you arrive early.
Free morning trolleys will be running from 7:00 to 9:00 AM from both Kailua Intermediate and Kainalu Elementary. These will stop near the staging areas and help attendees get close to the route without the challenge of parking nearby.

Suggested Viewing Areas
Anywhere along Kainalu Drive is a great place to enjoy the parade, with excellent visibility throughout the route.
One of the most popular viewing spots is near the main stage, where you can hear announcements and see performances up close.
Please be aware that some ʻohana claim spaces early with chairs or tents in the days leading up to the parade.
Safety Reminders
Please help us keep everyone safe and smiling throughout the event.
Roads will be closed to vehicles, and we ask that everyone stay off the roadway during the parade.
Keep keiki close at all times, and do not allow children to run into the street, even for candy or high-fives.
If bringing chairs or tents, please be sure sidewalks and driveways remain clear.
Respect the Neighborhood
Let’s show aloha to the residents of Kainalu Drive and surrounding streets.
Please do not leave ʻōpala (trash) behind in yards or along the route.
Be mindful of private property, driveways, and walkways throughout the event.
Mahalo for helping keep Kailua clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
